- Our Firm
This property, located in Strawberry Park on a unique parcel of land that encompasses several hundred acres, will eventually be transformed into a subdivision of high-end homes. The owners were interested in building a main lodge that would function as living quarters for owners who were building or coming out to view lots. The parcel they were considering is heavily wooded. We chose to draw reference to the traditional log character of the area without mimicking designs of the past. Instead, we designed a collection of cabin spaces that were connected together, each with a unique view, function and feel.
The piece to the west would be the secondary bedroom cabin. There would also be a master bedroom cabin, a main living cabin and a main recreational space cabin. Each piece would be tied together with a low-pitched, contemporary shed roof form that creates the fabric in between.
The result is a house that provides for very orchestrated private spaces, each with a unique view corridor. As you move from one structure to the next there is a feeling of breaking through a solid log wall into another private cabin.
For the communal living spaces we envisioned an outdoor eat-up bar that opens to the kitchen.
This design would work well not just as an owner’s retreat, but also for families living together that want to be connected while maintaining privacy. The log cabin is reminiscent of the original architecture of the mining and ranching communities but is updated for modern living.
