This project was built around the owner’s vision and desire to create an intense connection between the primary inside and outside public spaces and to maximize the spectacularly private views to the East.
Turning the steep site slope into an asset, tiered board-formed concrete walls help to create functionally diverse and experientially unique outside spaces. Timber and steel roof coverings, an outside fireplace, a two-tiered water feature and an open fire pit activate each space with a unique feel and provide utility at different times of day all year-round.
Two story glass curtain walls around the great room showcase the dramatic easterly views and include multi-slide glass doors which open onto outside decks. To the south, glass clerestory windows are anchored by a natural stone feature and harness passive solar opportunities while providing natural daylight deep into the great room and kitchen.
Wood and steel roofs, appearing to dramatically project through the glass walls, provide a reflective top surface to light the great room ceiling which enhances the inside-outside connection and creates lighted portals to the outside.
The entire Design/Build team can’t wait to make this vision a reality!
