GB Design Build congratulates Co-Founder Jeff Gerber on his retirement after 36 years in home design
After 36 years designing custom homes for clients in Washington DC, Boulder and Steamboat Springs, including 14 years alongside Co-Founder Hans Berend, Jeff Gerber is stepping away from GB Design Build to pursue other passions. Together with his wife Trigg, Jeff intends to split time between their family ranch in Texas and their home of 22-years in Steamboat.
“I’m proud of the inspired homes we’ve created together at GB. It’s been satisfying to work with so many amazing clients in the Yampa Valley. GB has attracted and developed an amazing group of people, each with specifically honed skills to excel in Design Build, and I’m honored to have worked with them all. I couldn’t be more excited to pass the torch to the team, and together with Trigg, embark on our next life adventures,” said Jeff Gerber, GB Principal of Architecture.
David Hoffman, who joined GB Design Build in 2014, will expand his leadership of the design team. Hoffman earned his architecture license in 2002 in Chicago and has worked in residential architecture for 25 years. He was a partner in Massey Hoffman Architects for nine years before moving to Steamboat Springs with his family to enjoy the mountain lifestyle. With several awards for excellence and preservation, Hoffman is well prepared to lead the GB design team in its next chapter.
“It’s been a true pleasure and always inspiring to work with Jeff as a partner. Under his creative influence, the GB design team has grown as they have worked together through multiple projects. Now the team is ready to take on a bigger role, and Jeff is ready to empower the partners of the future,” said Hans Berend, GB CEO.
Known as one of Steamboat’s leading architecture and construction firms, GB Design Build has evolved since it was founded in 2009, growing from 5 to over 40 team members. In 2021, the company promoted four long-time employees to partner who have been instrumental in the firm’s success, including: David Hoffman, Bert Larson, Adam Hartstein and Skip Warnke. With roots in end-to-end design build services, the GB leadership team has expanded the firm’s capabilities to take on marquee construction projects with respected out-of-house architectural firms. “Our Design Build background gives us a unique perspective and outlook on projects, and it’s an asset as we take on additional build-only projects. The interchange with our architectural peers is inspiring and educational. In the end it results in a very positive outcome for our team and our clients,” explained Berend.
Following the promotion of four long-time employees to the Company’s leadership team and Jeff’s departure, Gerber Berend Design Build began to transition their name to GB Design Build, Architecture + Construction, officially taking on the new moniker in 2023.
Additional members of the current GB Design team include Dave Rock, who holds a Masters in Architecture from North Dakota State University and has designed homes in Steamboat for 11 years, and Taylor Smith, who received his degree in Architecture from Clemson University.
